Hyderabad: Cardinal Poola Anthony of Hyderabad will enter the Pope together with Filipe Neri Ferrao in Goa, Cardinal Baselios Cleemis in Trivandrum, and Cardinal George Jacob Koovakad from Changanassery.
There are 15 cardinals reportedly one of the potential favorites that divide the next pope (called “Papabilli”) into “Papabilli”. There are 135 voters in total.
At the elevation ceremony of Cardinal Anthony, Cardinal Oswald Gracias of Mumbai said: “Articul Pulkar possesses all the qualities the pope needs and enjoys good rapport with his cardinal.” Father Raju Alex, deputy secretary of the Telugu Catholic Bishops’ Committee, said: “Our Cardinal will vote in the meeting, and God will, can choose to occupy Peter’s chairperson himself.”
Father Alex noted that two-thirds of the voters were appointed by Pope Francis, “reflecting his view of a more inclusive church.” About two to three weeks after the Pope’s death, the Cardinals gathered in Rome and came to the Church of Sistine below Michelangelo, and when the ceremony host announced the “extra omnes” ceremony, “going all out” – all but the cardinal who voted and several designated assistants were covered.
