Caste census will be part of the next population survey: Center takes major action

The decision was made by the High Power Cabinet Political Affairs Committee chaired by PM Modi.
Union Minister Ashiwini Vaishnaw said in a joint cabinet decision that the Union Cabinet Political Affairs Committee has decided to include caste enumerations in the upcoming census. Vaishnaw said this will strengthen the social and economic structure of society, while the country continues to make progress. “Under the leadership of PM Modi, the Cabinet Political Affairs Committee decided today to include caste enumerations in the upcoming census. This demonstrates the government’s commitment to the values and interests of society and the country,” he said.
The minister said the Modi government had earlier reserved 10% of the economically weaker parts without putting any pressure on any part of society. Congress has been asking for a caste census, and party leaders have repeatedly made demands in their speeches.
