CBI NABS top income tax official, four more in bribery case of Rs 7 million

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Hyderabad’s income tax commissioner (exemption) on Saturday, and four others appealed for accepting bribes of Rs 7 million to decide on income tax in support of the private party.
The defendant official also allegedly paid additional charges against the chief chief of Hyderabad, 7 and 8, allegedly engaged in a corrupt transaction with the help of the middlemen to manipulate the appeal results. The CBI signed a case on May 9 against officials and 14 people, seeking “inappropriate satisfaction” in exchange for a favorable judgment.
The trap was placed in Mumbai, where a middleman was caught accepting a bribe of Rs 7 million in a private party on behalf of the commissioner. Shortly thereafter, the Commissioner and his close associates were arrested in Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, searches were conducted in 18 locations in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Hammam, Visakhapatnam and New Delhi. In addition to the bribery, investigators seized the criminal’s documents, items and about Rs 6.9 lakh in cash. The bureau said further searches were underway.
The arrested person in Mumbai was born in the Special CBI court, while others from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh were produced in the local court.
An investigation is underway.
