CBI takes over Chhattisgarh ex-Beareaaucrats case, former AG affects Nan-SCAM probe

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken over allegations against two retired IAS officials and the former state advocates of Chhattisgarh, abusing its stance to influence the investigation of the alleged Nagrik Apurti Nigam (NAN) scam, which debuted in 2015.

Last year, the Economic Crime Department of the Chhattisgarh Police registered the cases of Anil Tuteja and Alok Shukla and former AG Satish Chandra Verma, and the investigation was later transferred to the CBI by the state government. CBI FIR was registered on April 16, an official said.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), Mr Shukla and Mr Tuteja allegedly abused their official position while serving as civil servants in the Chhattisgarh government, providing an undue advantage to the then advocate Satish Chandra Verma.

FIR notes that this is to improperly affect the performance of public responsibilities. The three are charged with conspiracy to change official documents and procedural information related to senior officials of the state Economic Crime Investigation Bureau. The changes were allegedly intended to manipulate the contents of the reply filed by the High Court in connection with the Civil Supplies Company case (AP00 09/2015) in a way that is beneficial to the defendant.

This is done so that they can benefit from the expected bail, added.

The scams involved in the Chhattisgarh’s node agency Nan nan are related to substandard rice and salt for the procurement and distribution of food cereals under public distribution systems. The officer duo is one of 18 people booked by the Anti-Corruption Bureau.
