The 54-year-old has agreed to a five-year contract with Florida A&M University, which is currently under approval from the university’s board of directors, CBS Sports reported.
A meeting of the school board will take place Wednesday and members are expected to approve the contract to appoint the next men’s basketball coach.
If all goes well, Ward will join Florida A&M after Patrick Crarey II left, who was hired as coach of Grambling State last week.
Who is Charlie Ward?
Ward won the Heisman Trophy in 1993 and performed well in the National Basketball League between 1994 and 2005.
