Manage e-waste responsibly: DRO

Nellol: District Revenue Officer (DRO) J. Uday Bhaskar Rao ignores that e-waste (e-waste) in homes and workplaces can lead to serious health problems and environmental degradation. DRO convened officials from various departments at the Tikkana Auditorium in Nellore Collectorate on Monday to raise awareness about e-waste management.

DRO stresses that e-waste contains high-risk substances such as lead, mercury, cadmium and arsenic. These can enter the body through inhalation, ingestion or skin contact, resulting in serious health complications.

He stressed that with the rapid development of technology, abandoned electronic devices (such as cell phones, laptops, TVs and batteries) are increasingly becoming the main threat to the environment.

“If it cannot be handled correctly, millions of discontinued electronic devices have made a significant contribution to pollution. It is crucial to manage e-waste through scientific methods, not only to reduce harmful environmental impacts, but also to restore valuable resources,” he said.

The DRO urges the public to ensure that outdated electronic items are sent to authorized e-waste recycling centers for safe disposal and reused use.

He warned that improper disposal can lead to soil, water and air pollution. Dangerous substances from electronic waste can penetrate into groundwater sources, contaminating drinking and irrigation water.

He concluded that the emphasis on the impact of electronic waste depends entirely on how it is processed. Improper management can not only cause environmental and health hazards, but also lead to huge economic losses. Responsible e-waste management is essential for a sustainable future.
