The Supreme Court on Friday (4 April 2025) allowed the Jharkhand government and its generator companies to cut the power supply on the Ram Navami march route to avoid electric events.

The Supreme Court has amended the direction of the Jharkhand High Court in a direction that prohibits state authorities from cutting power supply during religious marchs.

The bench, composed of Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna, and Justices Sanjay Kumar and KV Viswanathan, recorded the opinions of senior advocate Kapil Sibal, a committee that appeared in the state government led by JMM, which is underway for two decades to avoid electric incidents.

He said people usually carry long flags in such parades, which could lead to electricity incidents in the state.

However, the bench demanded that the Jharkhand government minimize power cuts and limits them to the march route.

It requires the state government to ensure supply to hospitals during the planned power cut.

It also asked the head of Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL) to make a commitment in the High Court that it would retain the shortest power to cut and would maintain emergency supplies to the hospital.

Ram Navami is the birthday anniversary of Lord Rama on April 6.
