The Central Crime Department of the Greater Chennai City Police Department has disrupted a network of cheating visas by creating a fake website similar to South Korea’s official visa applicants.
A senior police officer said fraudulent visa network programs targeting visa applicants were recently discovered. They created a forged website and tricked the applicant into downloading the forged Korean visa after entering their passport information to make it look like it was issued a real Korean visa after collecting the currency.
Je-hyoung Lee, deputy consul of the Republic of Korea Consulate, began an investigation and filed a complaint with the Chennai director after discovering a fake North Korean visa website was used to deceive Indian nationals.
The complaint came after an inquiry from a student from Nagercoil in January who received a suspicious visa grant notice. After verification, the consulate confirms that the visa notice is fake and the QR code in the document leads to a forged visa website. According to the complaint, the case was registered in March at the Cyber ​​Crime Police Department of the Central Crime Department of Chennai and the case has been investigated.
According to information collected from the domain service provider, investigators and teams conducted a raid in Mumbai and arrested Mohammed Parvez, 29, 29, the creator of the fake Korean visa website. Further investigation revealed that the other defendant was Mahaveer Khathat, 34, of Ajmer, Rajasthan, who was identified as the main figure behind fake visa websites in several countries.
A special team led by cybercrime police inspector Abraham Cruz Durairaj went to Rajasthan and arrested him in Jaipur, Rajasthan. He was taken to Chennai and was born at the Metropolitan District Court in Saidepet. He was remanded to judicial custody, and police seized two laptops, three cell phones, 14 credit and debit cards from him. The two prepared forged visas made for more than 100 applicants.
Police said the duo received a visa processing of Rs 5 lakh through online transfers, which was processed from Nagercoil students. Police also conducted a hunt on another suspect, who was operated with the duo from Indonesia.
