China launches the world’s first 10G broadband network

China established its first 10G broadband network in Sunan County, Hampi Province on April 20 (April 20), marking a significant advance in Internet infrastructure. The launch is a collaborative effort between Huawei and China Unicom, which aims to provide download speeds up to 9,834 Mbps, upload speeds of 1,008 Mbps, and latency as low as 3 milliseconds.

50G Passive Optical Network (PON) technology that powers 10G networks improves data transmission in current fiber infrastructure. The technology’s high bandwidth usage includes cloud computing, virtual and augmented reality, streaming 8K video, and integrated smart home devices.

For example, downloading a full-length 4K movie (about 20 GB) usually takes about 7-10 minutes on a 1 Gbps connection. With the new 10G broadband network, the same 4K film can be downloaded in 20 seconds.
This puts China at the forefront of global broadband technology, surpassing the current commercial broadband speeds in countries such as the UAE and Qatar.

The implementation of 10G broadband is expected to promote progress across sectors, including healthcare, education and agriculture, by enabling faster and more reliable data transmission.

The company behind 10g

Huawei was founded in 1987 and is headquartered in Shenzhen. It is a global leader in telecommunications equipment and network solutions. The company has played a key role in advancing optical broadband and 5G technologies.
On the other hand, China Unicom is one of the three major state-owned telecom operators in China. It provides broadband, mobile and enterprise services nationwide.
