CJI shares inquiry report with Prime Minister and President

New Delhi: India’s Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna wrote to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and shared reports from a three-member panel appointed by the Supreme Court that filed cash discovery charges against Allahabad High Court Justice Yashwant Varma.

Along with the panel’s report, CJI also shared Justice Varma’s response.

“The Chief Justice of India has written letters to the President of India and Prime Minister of India in terms of internal proceedings and closed copies of the report of the three member committees on May 3, as well as a letter/response from May 6, and received Justice Yashwant Varma from May 6,” the Supreme Court said in a statement.

It is understood that CJI had previously forwarded the group’s report to Justice Varma and sought his response based on the principles of natural justice.

A three-member panel composed of Chief Justice of the High Court of Punjab and Haryana State, Chief Justice of the High Court of Himaal Pradesh GS Sandhawalia and Karnataka High Court Judge Anu Sivaraman have submitted reports to the CJI.

The team analyzed the evidence and recorded statements from more than 50 people, including Delhi Police Chief Sanjay Arora and Delhi Fire Department heads, who were among the first responders to the fire incident on Justice Lutyens Delhi Residence on March 14 at around 11:35 pm.

Justice Wama was a judge of the Delhi High Court at the time.
