Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday praised Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand for winning top international awards for his department’s anti-drug efforts, saying it was a proud moment for the state and a step forward in the fight against drugs.

The Chief Minister congratulated X (formerly known as Twitter) on winning the first prize of Anti-Drug Excellence Award at the World Police Summit in Dubai in 2025. The summit chaired by the Dubai Police Department acknowledged global policing efforts in various areas, including narcotics control.

“Our government poses a serious threat to our society that narcotics pose to our society and cannot be tolerated in the name of ‘lifestyle’,” Mr Reddy said. “Drugs pose a threat to our descendants and must fight all of us…I’m glad @telanganacops is working hard to destroy this threat. Let us all end drugs together and make #Telangana drug-free.”

Shortly thereafter, Telangana DGP Jitender also posted a tweet congratulating Commissioner Anand on his “Pride Moment of Telangana & India,” he wrote.

Commissioner Anand said in response to this recognition, the award paid tribute to the people of Telangana and the state’s determination to collectively curb drug trafficking. “Any war against narcotics depends on three factors – political determination, public support and excellent policing,” he said in a statement.

Hyderabad and Telangana police have reportedly used a mix of strategies, intelligence and technology to address narcotics over the past 16 months. Mr Anand attributed the momentum to the “commitment and vision” of the Chief Minister, who said he turned the anti-drug drive into a human-supported campaign.

“The Chief Minister has been clear and determined to erase this threat to our society, especially our children,” he said, adding that the police will continue to support the public to achieve the goal of the non-toxic Telangana.
