CM praises CV Anand and TG police for fighting drugs

Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Saturday vowed to transform the country into a “drug-free Telangana” and praised City Police Commissioner CV Anand for gaining global recognition for the police department’s fight against narcotics.

Anand received the “Excellent Anti-Drug Award” at the World Police Summit, hosted by the Dubai Police Department from May 16 to May 16. The award recognizes extraordinary achievements in fighting drugs around the world with the global drug crisis.

After returning from Dubai, Anand met with Revanth Reddy here on Saturday. The Chief Minister expressed his pride and praised the Commissioner’s efforts and the wider work of the Telangana Police.

“Congratulations to #HYDERABAD Police Commissioner @CvanAndips Garu for receiving the highest global honor for his fight against drugs,” Revanth Reddy wrote. “He won the ‘First Prize for the Anti-Drug Excellence Award’ at the 2025 World Police Summit hosted by the Dubai Police Department.”

Revanth Reddy stressed the state’s zero-tolerance stance on narcotics, calling it a “serious threat” to society and future generations. He said in the post: “I’m glad @telanganacops is working hard to destroy this threat. Let us all end the drugs together and make #Telangana drugs drug-free.”

International recognition is granted based on a series of decisive measures taken in Hyderabad to curb drug trafficking and consumption. These include massive crackdown on drug networks, the use of advanced surveillance and intelligence tools, and a series of awareness campaigns conducted by schools and universities over the past three years.

Anand expressed great pride in the honor in a media statement. He said: “I am honored to be the first prize in the Anti-Drug Excellence category on behalf of all Telangana people at the World Police Summit in Dubai.”

He attributes success to three core pillars – political determination, public support and professional policing. “For the past 16 months, Telangana and Hyderabad police have been using the best strategies, technology and intelligence to eliminate narcotic threats in the Bud.” Anand attributes Revanth Reddy to Revanth Reddy, leading the anti-drug initiative and turning it into a statewide campaign.
