CM Revanth takes resolution against legislative parliamentary demarcation

Hyderabad: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy proposed a resolution against the Telangana Legislative Assembly that defines the boundaries of the parliamentary constituency and its number.

He said, “Countries that control population should not be punished for demarcation. Existing constituencies should be retained, while the number of parliamentary constituencies in the state should increase to 153. The SC and ST seats should increase in proportion to the current population.”

He said the southern states had complied with central directives to control population control, while the northern states did not. Currently, delimitation is based on population, but it has been suspended for 25 years through the 1971 constitutional amendment. Continuous confusion about its implementation.

Revanth Reddy noted that Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin recently held a meeting on demarcation, where the resegment of population-based constituencies will not be accepted. He recalled that former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee also opposed the demarcation based on the crowd.

“Some claim that the central government has not yet made a decision on demarcation. Currently, the southern states hold 24% of the seats in Lok Sabha, but if the demarcation continues, this share will drop to 19%. All parties should unite to oppose the move and support the resolution proposed by the government,” he urged. ”

Revanth Reddy also highlighted the parliamentary constituencies in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, noting that the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act stipulates an increase in its number. However, this has not been implemented due to political considerations, while states like Sikkim, Jammu and Kashmir have added parliamentary seats according to the 2011 census.

He further noted that despite contributing 36% of the country’s tax revenue, currently only 24% of the representatives in Lok Sabha and received the minimum allocation from the central government. By contrast, states such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh have received higher share of central funds.
