CM Stalin seeks Rs 2,152 crore if not mandatory

Chennai: Chief Minister MK Stalin demands the immediate release of Rs 2152 crore, due to Tamil Nadu’s implementation of the Samagra Shiksha (SS) plan if the three languages are fully mandatory in the National Education Policy (NEP) of Maharashtra Chief Minister and BJP Leader Devendna farnavis.

Stalin pointed out in a message on Monday’s social media channels that the coalition government is facing strong backlash as he sees Hindi as the third language Fadnavis now speaks, and now only Marathi is mandatory in his state.

Stalin said the position of the Chief Minister of Maharashtra clearly demonstrated his condemnation of the widespread condemnation imposed by the public on Hindi against non-Hindi.

After the State Marathi Language Advisory Committee recommended the revocation of decisions for the third language in Phase 1 to 5, Fadnavis said it was wrong to say that efforts were being made to impose Hindi on Maharashtra.

Speaking about his Maharashtra remarks, Stalin said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Trade Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan should clarify whether the coalition government endorses any language other than Marathi in Maharashtra, a third language under the leadership of the NEP.

Asked the question whether the coalition government would send clear instructions to all states to confirm that the NEP does not require mandatory teaching of third languages, he also asked whether to release Rs 2152 crore from Tamil Nadu.

He said the funding was blocked by the premise that the state had to subscribe to the mandatory third language teaching. Prahan even openly asked why Tamil Nadu resisted the implementation of NEP when other states were obliged, which triggered a political storm in the state.

Now, with the opposition from Maharashtra, the demand from Tamil Nadu is also likely to resonate in other parts of the country, where learning Hindi is seen as an unnecessary burden on students, which may also resonate.

The Maharashtra Language Advisory Committee itself has said that having students learn Hindi and English with Marathi will bear their burden, and that is not the right thing to do.
