CM urges artists, writers to advocate for cultural progress in Kerala

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan highlighted the critical role of cultural, literary and artistic voices in guiding Kerala’s progress, seeking active participation of stakeholders to enrich the social structure of the country.

He spoke at Parasparam, which was an interaction with cultural leaders at the Thrissur Loulu Convention Center on Monday, as part of the fourth anniversary celebration of the Left Democratic Government (LDF).

The Chief Minister said: “Kerala continues to uphold secular values ​​and humanitarian principles. Artists and writers have historically played a transformative role in shaping progressive societies.” However, he stressed the need for introspection if today’s interventions continue to maintain the same intensity.

“Resistance to Regression”

The Chief Minister stressed the unique cultural identity of Kerala, highlighting the contribution of social reformers such as Sree Narayana Guru in eliminating superstitions and promoting social awareness. He called on cultural activists to unite resistance to the return force and to adopt clarity and belief in defending the state’s secular and progressive legacy.

In addressing questions about the Nava Keralam vision, he clarified that it involves not only one-dimensional development, but also inclusive growth, reaching every part and corner of the state. “We aim to improve society to match the standard of living in middle-income countries and have a solid foundation in social commitment and public welfare,” he said.

Mr Vijayan said the state will lift its extreme poverty by November 1 as it strengthens public distribution, education and health care systems.

Cultural Affairs Minister Saji Cherian in his speech called Parasparam a tribute to the government’s nine-year journey and support from the cultural community. “Our government has developed several model plans for artists, from the anniversary of the King Kong jubilee to the widespread publicity of folk and tribal art,” he said. He added that the project’s customization is aimed at different, coastal, tribal and transgender artists to ensure inclusion in the cultural landscape.

The event begins with the traditional welcome dance of Guru Gopinath Natanagram.

Balachandran, Murali Perunelli of Ac Moideen and Mlas; Panchayat Regional President vs Prince; Cultural Affairs Director Divya S. Iyer; Regional Collector Arjun Pandian participated in the competition.

Organized by the Ministry of Culture, more than 2,500 cultural activists from 14 regions participated in the event, and 15 outstanding people were recognized for their contributions.
