Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan holds cooperation expo

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday highlighted the need for measures to help maintain public confidence in the state’s cooperative sector.

After his speech, Mr. Vijayan delivered a speech at the Cooperation Expo organized by the Kanakakkunnu Palace Grounds.

Vijayan said the cooperative is the backbone of the state’s economy. The number of cooperatives has increased from about 3,000 people who established the state to nearly 23,000. The deposit has reached 2.5 lakh rupees. He said the growth showed confidence in the industry and demanded action to preserve it.

The industry has created 500,000 jobs over the past four years. The Chief Minister said it has also made great progress in increasing value. He urged the cooperative to enter the production sector, which would also help generate more jobs.

More than 200 stalls

The 2025 edition of the fair will showcase products and services in the cooperative sector from April 30 until April 30. The event has more than 200 stalls. Minister of Cooperation VN Vasavan presided over the first function.

The fair began on Monday and also hosted workshops on 12 topics related to the industry. According to the department, 122 representatives, including those from the United States, Indonesia, Fiji and Spain, will attend the meeting.
