Congress on Tuesday (April 29, 2025) asked its leaders not to speak out and cross the party line in the case of a terrorist attack in Pahargam or facing disciplinary action.

Congress also removed the image X post titled “Gayab” to portray Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a leader during the crisis, an offensive BJP claiming it was an image of “Sar tan se juda” and trying to undercut India.

The warning comes after comments from some party leaders, causing controversy and allows the BJP to attack Congress, accusing them of speaking on behalf of terrorists and pro-Pakistan.

In letters to all PCC leaders, CLP leaders, Party General Secretary and Heads, Members of Congress, MLA/MLC and heads of various departments and frontal organizations, AICC Secretary General KC Venugopal asked them to exercise the greatest discipline and consistency in public communications and not to show it in the PAHALGAM incident.

Mr Venugopal said: “All staff are instructed to exercise the greatest discipline and consistency in public communications.

Venugopal asserted: “Any violation of the Directive will invite strict discipline.”

On April 22, terrorists opened fire on grass near the popular tourist town of Pahalgam, 26 people were killed and several injured.

In his letter, Mr. Vinagapal said that the terrorist attacks on Pahargam by the Congress party were deeply troubled by the time of his hour, and that the terrorist attacks on the country remained unwavering.

“At this critical moment, when our collective determination is being tested, the National Assembly of India must embody unity, maturity and responsibility – both our actions are defined in the government and the opposition, and these virtues have defined our actions.”

He said the Congress Working Committee (CWC), chaired by party head Mallikarjun Kharge, passed a unanimous resolution on April 24, clarifying the party’s clear and perceived position on the Pahalgam attack.

He pointed out that the resolution must serve as the sole basis for all public expressions of the party’s position on the matter.

“So, hereby directs all comments, statements and representatives, whether handled by the Party’s leaders, spokespersons, media panel members or the official approach of the Congressional Social Media Department, must strictly comply with the resolutions of the CWC.

“Any deviation, false statement or ready-made remarks should be considered a serious violation of party discipline,” Mr Venugopal said.

He said let us pay attention to the values and traditions of the Congress Party and rise with the dignity and constraints that the country correctly expects us.

Mr Venugopal said every Indian is seeking justice for the families of innocent fellows who have died.

“Every Indian is seeking answers to government accountability. The Congress Party has always fulfilled its responsibilities with a deep sense of national obligations. Our history has always placed national interests above the full scope of our nation’s interests, especially during a time of national crisis, which proves this fact.”

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, senior Maharashtra leader Vijay Wadettiwar, Karnataka Minister RB Timmapur and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s husband Robert Vadra, with some of them raised the attack on the war with Pakistan and Pakistan, and they asked about the attacks on the terrorists, an attack on the terrorists, a person attacking the attacks on the attacks.

Earlier in the day, Congress made a social media post with a headless figurine. The image posted by Congress on X, without name Mr. Modi, shows an old photo of him, his body disappeared and his clothes formed a silhouette.

The image has the message “Gayab” (lost) on the Hindi title titled “Jimmedari Ke Samay -Gayab” (lost when taking responsibility).

After it was removed, Amit Malviya, the head of social media at the BJP, said on X: “Deleting a post does not delete the truth.

Mr. Malvia said: “You are unapologetic Islamists, and if that means returning to power, they will also aim at Prime Minister Modi without hesitation. But you will never. The Rahul Gandhi generation is destined to be politically irrelevant, and India has no scope for you and is beyond your reach.”
