Congress demands BJP MLA disqualification after the High Court insists on his conviction

The Rajasthan High Court insisted on conviction in a 20-year-old case after an opposition congress in Rajasthan (May 3, 2025) demanded the cancellation of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA KANWAR LAL MEENA. Mr. Mena was elected from Anta in the Baran area and was sentenced to three years in prison.
The case is related to the incident in February 2005, when Mr. Mena joined seven employees at the villager protest site in the Jalawar area, demanding Deputy Salpanchi approval and threatening the revolver. He allegedly aimed his revolver at SDM's head and asked him to announce regeneration or being killed within two minutes.
Mr. Mena, who was not elected to the Rajasthan Parliament at the time, had already faced him with 15 criminal cases. He damaged the recording equipment of government officials to remove traces of action and leave the scene. Three years after the incident, he was arrested and released on bail on the same day.
Although Mr. Mena was initially acquitted by the trial court, the Sessions Court in Akerra later found him guilty of obstructing government work, threatening government officials and destroying property in December 2020. He was sentenced to three years and two years in prison and was sentenced to serving his sentence simultaneously on different charges.
Meena has won the MLA twice, won the election of Jhalawar's Manohar Thana for the first time in 2013, and later won the election from Anta in 2023. His amended petition was dismissed, which challenged Sessions Court's judgment, and a high court judge ruled on Friday that Mr Meena's beliefs were factual and law-based and relied on strong evidence.
The High Court directed Mr. Meena to surrender immediately in the trial court, but the court would issue an unjustifiable warrant against him, and the MLA would accept the judgment.
PRADESH Congress Committee Chairman Govind Singh Dotasra and Tika Ram Jully, the leader of the opposition in Rajasthan Parliament, demanded that Mr. Meena, in accordance with Article 8(3) of the People's Code, provide for a legal provision to bring forth a legal provision for an offence.
Mr Julie said that in view of the High Court upheld his imprisonment, Parliament President Vasudev Devnani should immediately pass an order to cancel Mr Menna's House of Representatives. The delegation of Congress leaders will soon meet with the speaker and put the demand before him.
Mr. Meena is an MLA, suspected of mob attacks, and he also made headlines on January 16, 2016 in the Aklera area of Jhalawar district (March responsibility). The video appears, showing Mr. Mena the allegations Lathi is against the radicals and beat and chase them. The incident has attracted attention to the movement to highlight rampant corruption in public life and to determine accountability.
