Congress expressed grief over Pope Francis’ death on Monday (April 21, 2025) and expressed condolences to the Christian community. “The world is saddened by Pope Francis’ death,” a statement issued by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said.

Mr. Hager described the Pope as an influential force of interreligious understanding and global peace and harmony.
“He is also a consistent advocate of interreligious understanding and participation. He is also a huge influence on global peace and harmony, actively supporting such as endings of discrimination in all forms, mitigating economic inequality and collaborative efforts to address the impacts of climate change,” Mr Kharge said.

The president of Congress said that Pope Francis is indeed an iconic personality, a humanitarian excellence, and he left a very valuable legacy.
The head of Congress said: “On behalf of the National Assembly of India, I extend my sincere condolences to our Christian brethren, especially in different parts of our country and the world.”
Rahul Gandhi, a member of Congress and leader of the opposition, also begged the death of Pope Francis, who is known as the “global voice of sympathy, justice and peace.”

Congress Secretary-General Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said the death of his holy pope Francis was a loss to the entire world.
“He is indeed a manifestation of love and compassion. He represents truth, he fearlessly opposes injustice, cares for the poor, and is marginalized with true beliefs. He is the inspiration for millions of the world who hope and strive for a more peaceful and kind world. May his soul maintain eternal peace,” she said in the message on X. ”
