LPG prices have recently risen by Rs 50 under subsidized and unsubsidized categories, with Congress subject to restrictions, which held protests here on Thursday.

The protests were led by young congressional workers who raised slogans against the center’s BJP-led NDA government. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been criticized for hiking.

Although the center has accumulated a large amount of revenue through GST, it is also involved in supporting and protecting the commercial interests of industrialists. Protesters say it was civilians who suffered under the BJP’s policy, some of whom wore Modi masks to guide criticism of the prime minister.

Urban Youth Congress President Sayyid Abrar said the weaker part of the country is the first to bear the rise in prices, which is not only anti-poverty, but also opponents, so should be opposed.

He said even the BJP should oppose hiking, but they are busy with their own “Janakrosha Yatra”, which according to Abrar, is just an attempt to divert public attention.

Congress leaders mocked the BJP in Karnataka and said the price increase was on the day the party launched Yatra, which was not only ironic, but also equal to the BJP in the state.

Akshata Ravikumar, a senior functional officer of the party, said the BJP had no moral rights to hold the rights of Janakrosha Yatra and claimed that the prices of basic commodities have increased frequently since the Modi government took office at the centre.

Congress leaders also mentioned the differences in tax decentralization and said the BJP discriminated against Karnataka. Workers were surprised when the prices of LP oil cylinders rose, this was when oil prices fell in the international market.

“But the BJP did nothing positive to improve the lives of civilians for the relentless hike of basic commodity prices,” Congress leader said.
