Consumer court in Kerala orders tailors to sew wrongly sized shirts fine Rs 12,350

Thiruvananthapuram: Ernakulam Regional Consumer Dispute Remedy Commission fined Rs 12,350 on tailoring units because they failed to sew the shirt to the correct size.
The commission’s order was issued against Thomas Jimy, Thrikkakara’s complaint against the private tailoring department in Palarivattom.
In August 2023, Jimy visited the tailor shop with her existing shirt to make sure the tailor can copy the correct size. However, he was shocked to find that the shirt he received was unusable due to incorrect size.
Despite requests for changes, Jimy has not received any response from the tailoring unit. After sending a legal notice that was not answered, he decided to submit the matter to the Consumer Dispute Remedy Committee to seek compensation for the mental suffering he experienced.
The committee concluded that the tailoring department failed to provide the committed services. The fine includes a tailoring fee of Rs 550, a fabric cost of Rs 1,800, mental distress and court costs of Rs 5,000, respectively.
According to the Commission’s statement, a fine must be paid within 45 days.
