The Consumer Protection Welfare Association in Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai and Tiruvarur districts urged the authorities to demolish and rebuild the Urban Primary Health Center (UPHC) located in Marundhu Kothalam Road, Nagapattinam town.

Two years ago, the Health and Wellness Center at Pazha Street, 30 Nagapattinam was transferred to the building’s severe structural damage. However, temporary facilities are located on a narrow and crowded street and are difficult to access.

Despite the approval of Rs 1.2 crore under the national health mission of the original location and the national health mission of building new facilities, the work has not yet begun. The association said the new building will appear at the same location, but there is no obvious progress.

Association President NP Bhaskaran said that repeated representations have been conducted to the district administration and municipalities, but no action has been taken so far. Official sources said demolition and reconstruction work will be underway soon.
