Contributing to 71-year-old “lovely teaching assistant” who died at home after “disturbance”: 78-year-old man arrested
A tortured local community pays homage to the “lovely teaching assistant” who lost Saturday at her home.
Margaret McGowan was named locally at the Newfield Square home in Glasgow at around 9.45pm on Saturday at around 9.45pm, who was named 71, who was around 9.45pm on Saturday after “disturbance”.
A 78-year-old man was detained for the incident and a “widespread” preliminary inquiry is still underway. There is no risk to the wider public.
It is understood that the beloved teaching assistant worked at nearby Gowanbank Elementary School and he was praised by her “lovely” nature by the “shocked” community.
Outside her home, a large number of flower tributes have been placed, while the devastating young man wrote the chalk of “Rip Margaret, we miss you”.
A commenter expressed her commemoration to social media, describing the tragic death as “so sad” and said: “In this very sad time, her family was thinking.”
Another added: “Ms. McGowan is such a lovely woman.”

They added: “We knew something serious happened right away. No one would tell us what happened, but everyone was shocked.
A spokesman for the Scottish Police Department said: “Before Saturday, May 10, 2025, police encountered reports of riots in a house in Newfield Square in Nyts Hill, Glasgow.
“A 71-year-old woman was found to be seriously injured and pronounced dead at the scene.
‘A 78-year-old man was detained with no risk to the wider public. Extensive queries in the early stages are underway. ”
