COVID-19 cases see surge in Singapore, Hong Kong; India reports 257 cases – all moderate: Ministry of Health

Sources from the United Health Ministry said the current COVID-19 situation in India is still under control, with the number of active Covid-19 cases in India as of May 19 was 257.
The statement follows a recent review meeting of the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), Emergency Medical Relief (EMR), Indian Medical Research Council (ICMR) and Central Government Hospital Disaster Management Cells and Central Government Hospitals.

Sources added that India has increased vigilance after the rise in Covid-19 cases in Singapore and Hong Kong over the past few weeks.
“Based on the preliminary information available, cases are mostly mild and have nothing to do with the severity of the abnormality or the mortality rate,” the official said.
He added that India currently has very few cases given the country’s large population.
“Almost all of these cases are mild and do not require hospitalization,” he added.

The Ministry of Health notes that through the Integrated Disease Surveillance Program (IDSP) and ICMR, there is also a reliable system for respiratory virus disease monitoring systems.
The Ministry noted: “The Federal Ministry of Health is vigilant and proactive in closely monitoring the situation to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to protect public health.”
