CPI slams Shashi Tharoor, saying he focuses on BJP’s sleeping cell role in Congress

Amid the controversy over the centre picking Shashi Tharoor, the CPI Kerala unit on Sunday slammed the MP for accusing him of wanting to be a “sleeping cell” in a grand old party.
CPI Secretary of State Binoy Viswom said in an article on social media platform X that opposition leaders worry about Congress BJP’s sleeping cells in Congress is not an easy task, as Tharoor is looking for a place in it.
He also hit the BJP, accusing it of using the fight against terrorism to “pursuing partisan achievements.” “@rahulgandhi’s concerns about the BJP sleeping cells within Congress are not that simple. @sashitharoor seems to be looking for his berth in that cell. @bjp4india knows how to use such elements. For them, even the fight against terrorism is a hunting party!” Viswom said on X.
After Tharoor accepted the invitation from the centre to lead a multi-party delegation abroad, his remarks were based on India’s position on Pakistan’s terrorism. His decision became controversial because his name was not given in Congress at the request of the central government.
In defending his decision, Tarole said on Saturday that he saw no politics in this matter. He further stated that, given his past experience in handling foreign affairs, the Union’s Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju formally invited him to lead the delegation, “I agree immediately.”
“I can’t see politics. According to me, when we have a country, politics becomes important. We are all Indians. When the country is in crisis, the central government seeks help from citizens, what else will you give,” he told reporters here.
Congress nominated former Union Minister Anand Sharma, whose government asked the delegation of four MPs to come after Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi, Rajya Sabha MP Syed Naseer Hussain and Lok Sabha MP Raja Brar.
