CPI teamed up with UDF to beat CPI (M) and won the vice presidential position of Ramankari Panchayat

In an interesting development, the Communist Party of India (CPI) has joined forces with the United Democratic Front (UDF) to defeat the Communist Party of India (Marxism) [CPI(M)] and secure the Vice President’s seat at Ramankari Panchayat in Alabzha.
In an election held here on Saturday by the Panchayat Commission, CPI candidate Remyamol Sajeev was elected vice president after defeating CPI’s Molji Rajesh (M). Remyamol received seven of 13 votes, while the CPI (M) candidate received only five votes. One vote was declared invalid.
Reasons for the election
The election was triggered by the resignation of UDF member Sheena Rajappan, who resigned from the post office, making room for another member of Congress. However, UDF did not hire its own candidate. CPI felt the opportunity and moved forward with Remyamol’s nomination, and UDF decided strategically to support her.
Earlier in June 2024, CPI(M) Rebel R. Rajendrakumar was removed from the position of the president with the support of Congress. Subsequently, Congressman R. Rajumon was elected president and was supported by CPI(M) members.
Two factions
CPI(M) continues to fight internal conflict in Ramankari, where parties are now divided into two factions, one of which enjoys the support of the official party leadership. Several CPI(M) leaders and workers have crossed the CPI in recent months.
