Asked an investigation into major violence in the Mexidabad region of West Bengal, the Communist Party of India (Marxism) claimed on Sunday that the ruling Trinamore Congress and opposition figures ruled “competitive communism” ahead of the 2026 Congress elections.
The frontal lobe organization of CPI(M) and several left-wing workers and farmers organized a large rally at the iconic tourist destination in Kolkata to urge their demands.
Mohammed Salim, Secretary of State of CPI(M), said of the rally: “We want to conduct a judicial investigation into the Murhidabad riots to raise the truth. TMC and BJP engage in competitive communism, it is nothing more than a desperate effort, but a desperate effort to shift to people who do not hire, prices rise and corrupt, this is a universal and corrupt person, this is a universality of people like unemployed and corrupt people.
Protests against WAQF (Amendment) actions were caught in major violence in the Muslim-led Mexidabad area from April 11 to 12, where three people were killed and several others were injured.
Salim refers to the WAQF (Amendment) Act proposed by the coalition government led by Narendra Modra, accusing the Center of betraying the people. He stressed: “The law has been amended. There are protests nationwide. But the riots did not occur anywhere outside Muhidabad, Bangladesh. This raises serious problems.”
CPI(M) leaders claim that both the BJP and Trinamool Congress are “helping each other” to polarize voters in the 2026 poll.
“The BJP and the TMC are helping each other in order to create an atmosphere in the name of religion, and people are being divided in the state,” Salim added.
West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose visited Murshidabad on Saturday and interacted with affected people, including the families of the father and son who were killed in the recent violence.
The National Commission for Women (NCW) delegation also visited Merhidabad and said that a report would be submitted to the Centre.
Chandan Das and his father Hargobind Das were hacked to death by a mob in the Jafrabad Local in Shamsherganj. Shamsherganj, Dhulian and Suti witnessed widespread violence in the Mehdabad region during protests against the WAQF (Amendment) Act.
