The Supreme Court has directed a constitutional investigation by a special investigation team of three members against the FIR of Madhya Pradesh Minister Vijay Shah, his derogatory remarks on Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, which were briefed to the media during the Sindoor operation.

A judge led by Surya Kant ordered the Madhya Pradesh Police Commissioner to form the direct award of Madhya Pradesh Cadre to IPS IPS officer on Monday (May 19, 2025).

However, none of these three SIT members belong to the country. One of them must be a woman. The SIT must be led by the IPS officer of the IPS Presidential Officer, and the other two members must be of the SP rating. The Supreme Court said that the SIT must be formed by 10 a.m. on May 20.

The bench also directed the SIT to submit its findings in the status report. The court has amended its next hearing on May 28.

Justice Kant said the minister’s comments constituted “meaningless remarks.” The court said there was no point in apologizing to the court, just “trying to get out of the situation.” Justice Kant said the bench had already watched the video footage showing Mr Sha speaking and even transporting the clips to the court.

“We can show you them here if you want to… You seem to say some very dirty, abusive words in the video, but either a better feeling prevails for you, or you may not get the right words and you stop… Instead of leading by example, you, taking role models, you, an unfortunate politician and one, most unfortunately, Kant’s senior person promoted Kantha’s senior person Shaa.

The court said the minister had enough time to reach the public and apologize sincerely. Judge Kant said: “People’s comments ruthlessly hurt people’s emotions. What should you do or say to express your sincere regret.”

Justice Kant said the fair and transparent field investigation against the current minister would be a “test test” for the BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh government.

The court directed Mr. Shah to “join and cooperate fully with the investigation” but will remain arrested for the time being.

The court further challenged Madhya Pradesh’s lack of initiatives, requesting a FIR for the minister or book him. Justice Kant said the High Court must first intervene in the state, then intervene again, and literally “rewrite” the crimes listed against the minister in the FIR. “What have you done until today?” Justice Kant asked the lawyer representing the country.
