A 48-year-old private employee from Hyderabad lost Rs 1.8 lakh to cheat on his video call after a fraudster was a SBI credit card official. The caller claimed that he was fined on the victim’s unused credit card but filed for waiver.
During a video call, the scammer asked the victim to display his card, including CVV. Although the victim did not share any OTP, his account still deducted money from his account – well over the credit limit of Rs 50,000, according to the police press release.
The victim filed an online complaint. Police suspect details of the card have been abused for excessive restrictions on transactions. For suspicious activity, report it at cybercrime.gov.in or call 1930. For emergency situations, please contact 8712665171.
