Cyber attack on BWSSB Online Water Connection Portal has been avoided, complaints have been registered

Bangalore: Officials from the Bangalore Water and Sewer Commission (BWSSB) filed a complaint at the Cyber Crime Police Department in Bangalore, trying to attack its water supply portal to access customer data. However, the Computer Emergency Response Team India (CERT-IN) reminded the BWSSB’s technical team to take action in a very quick time and was able to curb violation attempts on its portal.
An attempted attack on the BWSSB online water connection portal was held on April 11. In a statement Wednesday, BWSSB Chairman Dr. Ram Prasath Manohar said: “Preliminary investigation confirmed that hackers accessed a small portion of the data. However, sensitive or confidential customer information was not leaked in the absence of attempted attack on its portal.”
Meanwhile, a detailed investigation is being conducted and strict actions will be taken against attempted data theft.
The Chairman said that as a preventive step, all relevant data from the affected portal has been transferred to a more secure centralized server. In addition, BWSSB is actively evaluating the implementation of blockchain technology to enhance digital security. ”
Ram Manohar said blockchain is considered a long-term solution to strengthen the board’s digital infrastructure and ensures that BWSS continues to upgrade its digital systems to ensure safe and efficient public services.
