Amid a sharp condemnation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sunday’s AAM AADMI Party (AAP) questioned the government’s decision to accept Pakistan’s “America-mediated ceasefire”, calling it a “attack on India’s sovereignty” and a missed strategic opportunity to control Pakistan-Capipied Kashmir (Pok).
At a press conference in New Delhi, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh asked Prime Minister Modi to convene a party-wide meeting and a special parliamentary session to explain the reasons behind the ceasefire and answer questions from the opposition.
His remarks come after U.S. President Donald Trump announced that India and Pakistan agreed to a “complete and immediate” ceasefire after the “long night” negotiations promoted by India and Pakistan in Washington. Shortly after, India’s Foreign Minister Vikram Misri said the Director of Military Operations of the two countries (DGMO) had agreed to stop all military operations on land, air and oceans.
Mr Singh asked why the government succumbed to US mediation when Indian troops had a “huge opportunity” and “recycling pok”, and he described the area as “the nest of terrorists.”
“When we could have separated Balluchistan from Pakistan, like when we separated Bangladesh, why did the United States declare a ceasefire? Isn’t it a self-esteem with the self-esteem of 1.4 billion Indians and the sovereignty of India?” he said.
Singh asserted: “The Indians wanted to tell Mr. Modi that no one had “rights with the sovereignty of the country”.
“This is an attack on India’s sovereignty. For 78 years, our position has been that both countries will talk about and make decisions without a third country. Where does he mediate now? [Mr. Trump] Pakistan is being called “a great country”. Our Prime Minister also thinks Pakistan is a “great country”? ” he said.
The senior AAP leader also asked if Mr. Modi shared Mr. Trump’s view that discussions should be held on Kashmir.
“Dashed Nuclear Line”
Responding to Singh’s speech, BJP country spokesman Pradeep Bhandari said that Pakistan “pleads for understanding” after suffering “catastrophic losses”. He posted on X: “In just 72 hours, under the decisive leadership of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has rewrite the engagement rules with Pakistan.”
Mr Bhandari said India had strategically determined to summon Pakistan’s “nuclear destruction” from Lahore to the depths of Pakistan’s military zone from Lahore to Rawalpindi and destroyed the terror headquarters of Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba in Muridke and Bahawalpur.
India has sent a “clear message to India that there is no one-inch inch in Pakistan’s territory that cannot be reached, and has weakened Pakistan economically by suspending the Indus Water Treaty.”
