Deaths in private hospitals in Nizamabad increase

Nizamabad: The deaths of patients at private hospitals in Nizamabad area over the past few months have been alarming, raising serious concerns about the negligence and immoral practices of some multi-specialty hospitals. The families of several deceased patients claimed that some private hospitals failed to provide proper treatment while forcing high fees and other fees.

The area has nearly 250 multi-specialty hospitals, nursing homes and clinics in Nizamabad, Bodhan and Armoor. These hospitals are suitable not only for patients in Nizamabad, Kamareddy, Nirmal and Jagtial areas, but also for the neighboring Degloor, Biloli and Dharmabad Talukas in the Nanded area.

Private hospitals are reportedly attracting PMP doctors, RMPs, ambulance workers and brokers to attract patients. As a result, in some hospitals, the number of outpatient and inpatients has increased dramatically. However, many of these institutions are allegedly unable to handle serious medical cases, resulting in frequent deaths. The victim’s family reportedly feared to file written complaints with police, Indian Medical Association (IMA) or the Association of Private Nursing Homes, due to stress and fear of retaliation.

In the early stages, residents will travel to Hyderabad for advanced treatment. Nowadays, many people rely on local multi-specialty hospitals and simply encounter health complications and financial exploitation. In some cases, the hospital allegedly reached a private settlement with the family by providing cost reduction or monetary compensation to avoid further scrutiny.

S. Siddaiah, founder of the non-governmental organization Sneha Society, which works with vulnerable groups, said members of the gay community are facing serious problems at some hospitals in Nizamabad. He cited recent incidents, saying that one of the members was seriously injured in a road accident and was taken to Manorama Hospital on Hyderabad Road. The doctor reportedly declared a low chance of survival and had a “suspicious” surgery before handing over the body after collecting Rs 1.7 lakh. Siddaiah said family and community members are planning to protest in front of the hospital.

The unexamined involvement of quack doctors and brokers has resulted in crowding in some multi-specialty hospitals, making it sufficiently less patient in smaller clinics and nursing homes. Some hospital administrators allegedly enjoy political influence but are still putting pressure on regional medical and health officials to avoid multiple violations. The death of a pregnant woman from Kamareddy and a man named Poshetty from Bazarkothur of Nandipet Mandal caused controversy last week.

Shockingly, even the deaths of hospital staff have sparked public protests. Two nurses employed in a private hospital on Hyderabad Road were found dead in suspicious circumstances and police have registered the case. House official of the police department of our town confirmed that the death of Shilpa, a nurse at Manorama Hospital, has been filed and further investigation will be conducted after receiving medical reports.

Speech Deccan ChronicleDr. Shiva Prasad, former president of the IMA Nizamabad division, said the complaints against private hospitals have been forwarded to the IMA’s Ethics Committee. “We are working to coordinate the adverse events of private hospitals by closely coordinating with doctors,” he said. Dr. Prasad added that all hospital deaths were registered with municipal companies and urged people to carefully evaluate the hospital before seeking treatment.
