Delhi Cabinet passes historic decision to propose cloud seeds to reduce pollution

The Delhi Cabinet on Wednesday adopted a historic decision to carry out cloud seeding, also known as artificial rain, in the national capital, to mitigate pollution. Pollution has been a serious concern for the state and to help curb it, the Cabinet, like its members, has taken an important step in working with IIT Kanpur.

The event is planned to take place in the last week of May after the Cabinet has all the necessary authority required by various departments and stakeholders. The exercise will be conducted in partnership with IIT Kanpur, whose aircraft Sesna will be used for this purpose. The Delhi government plans to conduct five trials outside the national capital.

The cost of rainfall will account for 6.6 million yuan and the operating cost will be 5.5 million yuan. The total cost of the entire trial program can reach up to Rs 25 trillion. The Delhi government aims to reduce pollution in the national capital to achieve Viksit Delhi's goal.

In Delhi, pollution remains an urgent concern, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) usually reaching very poor levels. Although several projects have been conducted in the past to solve this problem, none of them has provided a lasting solution to the pollution problem in Delhi.
