Delhi weather today: IMD predicts more relief from heat after thunderstorms

A powerful thunderstorm struck Delhi on Friday night, and the winds hit 84 kilometers, causing flights, power outages and blockades. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said relief may continue on Saturday.

Delhi Weather: Flight delays, roads blocked

The storm destroyed air traffic at Delhi Airport. After about 30 minutes of air traffic control suspension, 35 flights were diverted, with more than 100 delays.
On urban roads, uprooted trees cause clogging in major extensions such as Mathura Road, Lodhi Road, Janakpuri, Okhla, Okhla, Najafgarh and Dwarka. In Janakpuri, a van is damaged after a tree falls on it. NDMC and MCD have received complaints from Jor Bagh, Hanuman Road, Mohan Singh Place and Shahdara.

Delhi weather: wind speed and temperature

At 84 kmph in the southwest of Delhi, 74 km near the airport, the wind speed was recorded at 84 km, and at 70 km in Pragati Maidan. Rainfall was also recorded – Narela is 5 mm and 2.5 mm in Pitampura.

The storm causes the temperature to drop. Safdarjung’s drop dropped from 39.6°C on Thursday to 35.8°C on Friday. Lodhi Road drops from 31°C to 24°C in 30 minutes after 6.15 pm.

Delhi weather: Causes of the storm

IMD scientists say thunderstorms are caused by Western interference. “Dry middle winds collided with wet lower winds in the Arabian Sea,” said an IMD scientist. “This creates ideal conditions for thunderstorms.”

Power interruption

The storm caused the power cord to break after the trees fell in multiple areas. BSE and Tata Power-DDL said their teams were sent to solve supply, but work in Narela, Bawana, Badli and Mangolpuri was postponed due to security concerns.

Devaca Expressway Gantry Crashed

In Gurgaon, a gantry fell on a car on the Dwaka motorway during a storm. No one was seriously injured. The gantry was removed and traffic was restored.
