An 87-year-old “charming” man died of a robbery in north London for cornflakes. He is an Arsenal fan and his 22-year-old uncle.
John Mackey visited a partner store before being attacked before 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, where he bought food and newspapers and then visited a barbecue shop.
The attacker allegedly used the victim’s black duffel bag containing his cornflakes, shepherd’s pie and newspaper.
Emergency services arrived at the scene of Manor House on Goodchild Road and found Mr. McGee unconscious and bleeding from his head.
He was taken to the hospital where he regained consciousness, but died two days later.
Described as a “proud Irishman”, he was one of 11 children, was born in Ireland and moved to London in the 1950s.
He is the uncle of 22 nieces and nephews, has four siblings, and is a lifelong Arsenal fan.
Peter Augustine, 58, of Hornsey, was charged with murder and robbery and appeared in court yesterday.

He was taken to a hospital where he regained consciousness, but died two days later after an attack on Goodchild Road in the Manor House.
Mark Rogers, the chief inspector of the detective who led the investigation, said Mr. McGee was an “innocent member of the public.”
He said: ‘John is a proud Irish man and an innocent member of the public and when he was a victim of this tragic incident he returned home after running errands.
His family told us that he was one of 11 children. He was born in Karan, County Kilkenny, Ireland, and moved to London in the 1950s.
“He is an extraordinary 22 nieces and nephew’s uncle, and his remaining four siblings brothers, and they will all miss him.
John’s family described him as funny and charming. He is a lifelong Arsenal fan, and he is admired by his family and loved by the local community.
“His family will join John for a last trip back to Ireland where he will rest.”

“A public member saw Mr. McGee lying on the sidewalk and heard a man shouting “Give me a bag” and a man stood on Mr. McGee,” said prosecutor Ben Holt.
Other witnesses allegedly saw a man being punched, kicked and stomped on the cover, Old Bailey was told.
Augustine was taken to the detention center ahead of a July 29 plea and trial preparation hearing, while his trial was determined to be November 3.
Holt told the court that a temporary cause of death after the autopsy was bleeding in the brain and a fractured rib.
