Dennis Boycotts American Products: After Canada, it’s Denmark’s turn: Dennis Boycotts American Products, Beniflix and California Wine

Why do Danes boycott American products?
Many Danes are replacing American brands with European brands over US President Donald Trump’s tough policy towards Greenland. From groceries to entertainment, boycotts are quickly picking up.
To clear out the pantry of all U.S. goods, psychologist Mette Vennegaard, who lives north of Copenhagen, wrote to the Toms Group, the largest manufacturer of candy and chocolate in Denmark, to ask about the source of almonds used in the company’s famous almond products, as stated in the CBC report.
Denmark’s most precious dessert is a common filling for chocolate, and a sweet paste flavor made from almonds.

When the business responded that it soured supply from California (80% of the world’s almonds), Vennegaard added the item to her “No Buy List.” She went further. “If they were Americans, they wouldn’t be in the shopping basket.”
What items were avoided?
Thousands of Danes joined a Facebook group in exchange for tips on buying locally and avoiding making goods in the United States. Some are looking for shopping advice, others cancel their subscriptions to their U.S. holiday and U.S. streaming services.
Boycotts have taken advantage of Denmark’s current sentiment, with nearly 6 million residents in the country feeling threatened and alienated by the U.S. news transmission. Trump has promised the people of Greenland that Washington can make them rich and has repeatedly promised to annex the territory.
Bo Albertus, principal of the Danish school, started a campaign to target the U.S. government through conscious spending, focusing on elected government rather than content. He replaced California red wine with Italian bottles and moved from Netflix, Disney, Apple TV, HBO and Amazon Prime to local Danish streaming services. According to Albertus, there is no complete boycott, but 92,000 people are making financial decisions.
Denmark’s largest supermarket operator Salling Group labeled European products with a black star, indicating that the conscious spending campaign has sparked new interest in Danish and European goods. Posts on Facebook group show support for other Trump goals, including Denmark, Greenland and Canada.
Increased pressure on the government
Mikkel Vedby Rasmussen, a professor of political science at the University of Copenhagen, said the Danish government has put pressure on them to face the Trump administration more vigorously.
Although Denmark wants to cooperate with the United States on defense and security, it is obvious that “Greenland belongs to Greenlanders.”
Historically, Denmark has been a staunch ally of the United States. According to a CBC report, some Danish citizens are using their purchasing habits to force the administration to take a stronger stance against the Trump administration.
