Detained BSF police officer’s wife seeks meeting with Bangladesh CM

Kolkata: The wife of BSF police officer Purnam Kumar Sahu, who was detained by Pakistan Rangers on Sunday, said she had requested a meeting with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to seek intervention in her husband’s release.
She expressed hope that Banerjee’s intervention would speed up the process.
Sahu, 40, published in the Punjab’s Ferozepur field, accidentally crossed the international border on April 23 and was subsequently detained by Pakistan Rangers.
Rajni Sahu told the Plain Language News Channel: “I seek a brief meeting with Mamata Banerjee. She is the chief minister and a strong leader, so her intervention will help speed up the matter.”
Ragini said that having an understanding between India and Pakistan, she spoke with BSF officials to stop all shooting and military operations on land, air and ocean, but was not substantially updated.
She added: “They assured me, but there is nothing new in their response.”

Senior TMC leader and MP Kalyan Banerjee was asked by the state government to follow up on the matter, saying he had spoken with the BSF Director General Saturday night.
“I called DG last night to make sure it is taken seriously now. The situation is improving and it is the right time to push his release.”
