Dhaka follows Muhuri

Guwahati: Residents of four panchayats under the Bharat Chandra Nagar neighborhood of South Prinora are anxious as the Bangladesh government is heading towards completing embankments along the Muhuri River.

In some extensions of some “zero points” of the India-Bangladesh border, the construction is reportedly within 10 to 50 yards of Indian territory.

The four Panchayats have around 500 residents, fearing that the villages will be flooded if the water level rises. According to locals, the embankment built in Bangladesh is 15 to 20 feet high and extends about 1.5 kilometers.
Villagers urged the removal of embankments, or included appropriate drainage routes, to prevent potential flooding. In January this year, the Tripura government was linked to the centre. The embankment was built on its land by the Bangladesh government.

According to the state government, this could harm Kailashhahar, the small town of Unakoti area in the state and some border villages during the monsoon season.
