Van Dyke and Silver first met at the 2006 Screen Actors Association (SAG) Awards. At that time, Yin used to be a makeup artist.

Prior to that, Van Dyke had a romantic connection with Michelle Triola for more than 30 years. She later died after a long battle with lung cancer. He has since started dating Silver in 2009. It is also believed that he has hired several other projects from her.
