Sunita Williams returns to Earth, everything from the roots of her parents and family

NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore returned to Earth at 3:27 a.m. Wednesday as they splashed off the coast of Florida after a long stay at the International Space Station (ISS).

The two arrived at the International Space Station in June 2024 for a week-long mission to test Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft in its first crew battle. However, technical issues mean it is too dangerous to return with the crew. As a result, Starliner returned empty-handed and stranded the astronauts at the International Space Station.

After returning, Williams observed Diwali-like celebrations on Wednesday morning in the ancestral village of Gujarat’s Mesana area. Jhulasan Village, known as the home of Williams’ father Deepak Pandya, is full of excitement.

Williams’ father, Deepak Pandya, is from Jhulasan, Gujarat. He completed Intermediate Science (IS) from Gujarat University in 1953. He completed an internship and medical residence in Cleveland, Ohio.

Pandya joined the anatomy of Case Western Reserve University in 1964 and worked as a postdoctoral fellow in 1964. He continues to work in various hospitals and research centers across the country.

In 1957, Pandya married Bonnie Zalokar, a Slovenian-American, when she arrived in the United States. The two got married soon.
Last month, Zalokar spoke publicly about his daughter’s long stay at the International Space Station. In an interview with the news.
“That’s what they do. They love doing it, and they’re honored to continue with a long task like this, and, they feel really good about it,” she said in the interview. “She’s doing what she loves, so am I sad about her?”

Williams has been married to Michael Williams for 20 years. He was a federal marshal in Texas and had a background in flying helicopters before starting his respective professions.

Michael shared Sunita in an August 2024 interview with The Wall Street Journal. Space is “a place where she is happy.”
