Discussing miscellaneous climate challenges and responses

In November, climate envoys from around the world will gather in Bellem, Brazil to attend the United Nations Framework Conference on Climate Change, an annual effort aimed at enabling countries to increase their ambitions for addressing climate change. Facts about climate change and its link to human-induced warming have been established and become ominous every year.
To avoid the worst effects of climate change and preserve habitable planets, global warming needs to contain as much as 1.5 degrees Celsius as possible at the average temperatures of the pre-industrial era. However, this means reducing emissions by 43% by 2030 relative to 2019. Global carbon emissions are mainly from fossil fuels, continuing to rise and reach record levels. In 2024, global carbon dioxide emissions may reach a record 41.6 billion tons, up from 40.6 billion tons in 2023.
Huddle, a major event to be held in Bangalore on May 9 and 10, will hold an exciting panel discussion: “Climate Call: Is Technology a Panacea to Warm Planet?” to discuss the challenges facing the planet.
With the advent of Trump’s presidency and the rejection of facts surrounding climate change, it is increasingly believed that only markets, finance or grand technological restoration can “save” the planet. The conversation seems not to curb emissions, but is moving towards making money. Are we in a deadlock? Where do we go from here?
Dissecting these issues will be a group of three prominent analysts – Dr. Arunabha Ghosh, founder of the Energy, Environment and Water Council; Dr. Vibha Dhawan, Director General of the Institute of Energy Resources; Dr. Sambuddha Misra, a chemical communication scientist at the Indian Academy of Sciences and Chief Scientist at Alt Carbon. Dr. Ghosh and Dr. Dhawan have advised governments, states and companies on the challenges of climate change and are the leader of India’s most influential climate policy agency, Dr. Misra is a leading climate scientist who is part of “climate technology”, a startup that can explore how nature responds to warmth and geographical limitations, thus fixing its limitations.
In a topic chaired by Deputy Hindus Editor Jacob Koshy, the meeting will discuss: “If the current Trump presidency is a serious setback to addressing climate change”; “Is multilateralism the 20th century?”, “Can you make money and still save the planet?” and “Was India going to develop a dedicated ‘climate mission’ along the route of AI or Quantum missions?”
This year’s huddle’s theme is “Indian dialogue”. The event is a celebration of meaningful debates and dialogues. When noise often drowns out nuances, huddle creates space for listening, reflection and real connections.
