Elon Musk’s government efficiency department has criticized the ruthless layoffs. According to a report, an experienced civil servant is now physically dragged out of his office as he speaks to Doge.

Greg Pearre, head of the Social Security IT team, protested Musk’s department’s plan to prevent immigrants from accessing financial services.

Trump and Musk have launched a daunting campaign to cut the size of the U.S. government’s 2.3 million civilian workforce. According to a Reuters report, nearly 200,000 employees have been fired or designated to terminate or accept the acquisition.
The layoffs are mainly aimed at probation workers, many of whom work less than a year and have fewer job protections than longer. The judge ruled in March that the termination of about 25,000 probation employees could be illegal, forcing federal agencies to start reinstateing them. Meanwhile, new cuts for professional government workers have begun and are intensifying after Trump ordered federal agencies to submit plans for massive layoffs by March 13.

Last week, Elon Musk pointed out for the first time, according to the NYT News Service report that his government departments have not yet met its target.

He has previously said his strong budget cut team could reduce the federal budget for the next fiscal year by $1 trillion and do so by September 30, the end of the current fiscal year. Instead, during Thursday’s cabinet meeting, Musk said he expected the group to save about $150 billion, 85% less than its target.
