WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump said Thursday that he named Secretary of State Marco Rubio as national security adviser to replace Mike Waltz, whom he nominated for UN ambassador.Trump announced shortly after the news broke that Waltz and his deputy Alex Wong left the administration a few weeks after revealing that Waltz added a journalist to a signal chat used to discuss military plans.
Trump said Rubio will continue to serve as Secretary of State.
“I am pleased to announce that I will nominate Mike Waltz as the next U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. From his uniformed Congress on the battlefield, as my national security adviser, Mike Waltz has been working to put the interests of our country first,” Trump wrote on social media.
