In interventions exerting pressure on both sides, the U.S. president warned his country and its partners that further sanctions would be imposed if a month-long truce was “disrespectful”.

In the days when the Trump administration said it would stand out in peace talks to ensure direct negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.

But the latest speech by the US president shows that the United States is willing to continue to serve as a mediator.

Talks with Russia/Ukraine continue. Shortly after talking to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Trump said on his truth social network: “Ideally, the United States calls for a 30-day unconditional ceasefire.”

“If the ceasefire is not respected, the United States and its partners will impose further sanctions.”

Trump said, “The two countries will be responsible for respecting the sacredness of these direct negotiations to prevent the conflict that began when Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022.

The U.S. president said he hopes any ceasefire will create “lasting peace.”

Trump and other top U.S. officials have stepped up warning in recent weeks that Washington is ready to get rid of its role as a broker if no progress is soon.

He said his country was ready to negotiate on the “start” of Russia’s war and “any format” but insisted that there must be a complete ceasefire first.

Zelensky wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter): “From this moment, Ukraine was ready to start a ceasefire, which was a 30-day silence.

“But that must be true. There were no missiles or drone strikes, and there were no hundreds of attacks ahead. Russians must respond appropriately by supporting the ceasefire.

“They have to prove that they are willing to end the war. This is not the first time we offer it again.

Thirty days may become the beginning of a few years of peace. A lasting and reliable ceasefire will be a true indicator of a movement towards peace.

The United States can help with this. Just like eighty years ago, the world needs the United States. ”

For part of his orders for a ceasefire on the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, Moscow threw a large military parade in attendance by Chinese President Xi Jinping (XI Jinping).

Ukraine sees the ceasefire as a drama and says Russia breaks its orders in just a few hours.

Earlier this week, U.S. Vice President JD Vance said Moscow asked Ukraine to be too much.

The United States and Ukraine signed a mineral agreement last week – the Oval Office between the leaders of the two countries is two months later.

The agreement is based on obtaining Ukraine’s natural resources, including aluminum, graphite, oil and gas, in exchange for ongoing military support.

A few days after the deal was signed, the White House said it would take a step back from mediating peace talks between Ukraine and Russia after Vladimir Putin rejected the ceasefire deal.

State Department spokesman Tammy Bruce said the United States will no longer “fly around the world” under the hat.

Instead, Washington will negotiate “between the two parties”, she added.
