Donald Trump orders 100% tariffs on all movies made outside the United States | World News

Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he has directed the Commerce Department and the U.S. Trade Representative to immediately begin the process of imposing 100% tariffs on all films produced in other countries. He said the American film industry is “dying” a very fast death, adding that other countries are providing incentives to keep American film producers and studios away from the United States and call it a “national threat.”
“The U.S. film industry is dying very quickly. The Department of Commerce and the U.S. Trade Representative immediately began 100% tariffs on all films made in foreign regions that enter our country,” Trump said in an article about the truth about his social media platform.
Trump's decision is in the ongoing tariff war between the United States and China. On April 10, China announced that it had decided to “moderately reduce” the release of Hollywood movies in the Chinese market. China's National Film Administration directly links its decision to the tariffs imposed by the United States on Chinese products.
“The U.S. government's misconduct against Chinese tariffs will inevitably further reduce the cuteness of domestic audiences towards American films,” the National Film Administration of China said in a statement. “We will abide by market rules, respect audience choices, and moderately reduce the number of imported American movies,” it said.
It is worth noting that China accepts 10 movies from Hollywood every year, and the Chinese market was once considered the main source of revenue for the US film industry. Trump responded to China's decision, saying he did not confuse him by the China Film Administration's decision to target the film industry. In answering a question, Trump said: “I think I've heard something worse.”
