Support for Trump’s immigration policy has also declined.

In April, Trump received a net approval rate of six, with six on immigration, with 52% rated his approach as “terrible/very poor” and 46% called it “excellent/good”.

This marked a reversal from March, when 51% of respondents developed a positive view of his immigration policy, while 43% expressed negative views.

One of the cases involved Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was expelled from Maryland, as described by the Justice Department as an “administrative error.” The White House accused Garcia of being a member of the MS-13 gang, which the Trump administration designated as a terrorist group in January. Garcia’s lawyers and family said there was no evidence to connect him to the gang.

Atlasintel posted on X, formerly on Twitter: “The president’s personal image has deteriorated a lot, from a tie to a -8pp online rating. The economy has become a major concern for the U.S. public amid the controversy over the new tariffs announced by the government. Meanwhile, the president’s confidence in the issue has been reduced.”

Atlasintel CEO Andrei Roman posted on X: “One important thing to note here is that even now that it’s slightly underwater, immigration is still Trump’s best performance. Atlas always treats response bias. The better assumption is a result of pessimism about the economy and tariffs, which may be temporary. This may be temporary.

“The deportation of Abrego Garcia and international students engaged in anti-Israel forces may also be related to it. However, in most cases, I think it makes the most sense to trigger the paper.”
