Traders in the old regulated market committee (RMC) yard located near Sayyaji Rao Road are skeptical about the accumulation of drainage water accumulated in the house, which is hampering its operations.
The rains slammed Mysuru on the evening of April 29 exacerbated the plight of merchants, and the store was forced not only to endure the muddy drainage water in front of the store, but also to emit dirty drainage.
Since the old RMC yard is a subcode of the Agricultural Products Marketing Commission (APMC), a group of traders filed a complaint with the APMC authorities on April 30 and sought an early solution to their plight.
Mango dealer Syed Farooq Pasha said they have been urging authorities to take action over the past few weeks, but their complaints have turned a deaf ear. “It’s difficult to run our business. APMC authorities claim problems arise due to the blockage of drainage from rail properties adjacent to the market area,” he said.
However, APMC sources said APMC recently built a new pipeline to clear drainage water. The source added that efforts will be made to clear the clogged pipes and ensure drainage water does not accumulate in the house.
The roadside fruit dealer visited the APMC sub-yard near Sayyaji Rao Road and found it difficult to bring its carts and other vehicles into the house to get stuck in the driveway with drainage water to load fruit or other materials.
Traders also expressed concern about the growing volume of uncleared garbage in the APMC sub-yard.
“The entire market is infected by mosquitoes due to uncleared garbage, which threatens not only the health of traders but also the health of customers,” one trader said.
