Odisha's BJP government plans large-scale celebrations to commemorate the year's office
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government, led by the BJP, is preparing for a grand celebration to mark its first year’s completion, a range of plans aimed at presenting its achievements and outreach plans.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi was sworn in on June 12, 2024 and will lead statewide compliance, which is expected to focus on key milestones across various departments.
The official press release was convened by the senior meeting chaired by Usha Padhee, chief secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development and Commerce and Transportation. Senior officials from both departments actively participated in the deliberation.
During the meeting, Padsh stressed the importance of organizing celebrations in a meaningful, inclusive and influential manner to ensure that the achievements of the state government in the past year have been effectively communicated. She stressed that the proposed initiatives should reflect the government's commitment to development, transparency, good governance and public welfare.
A wide range of activities were presented, including all 115 city local agencies (ULB), regional transport offices and public outreach programs in the port area to focus on key development milestones. The program also includes exhibitions, multimedia campaigns showing success stories, transformative initiatives and foundation stones, and inauguration for large-scale projects.
Padhee directs officials to prepare a specific department-specific action plan and ensure maximum participation in planned activities. The meeting further decided to finalize a comprehensive calendar of events, focusing on close coordination between all relevant departments and stakeholders.
The celebrations follow the state’s historic political shift. In 2024, the BJP ended Biju Janata Dal (BJD) under uninterrupted 24 years of rule, providing power to its first complete government in Odisha after a decade and a half of opposition. The BJP used to share power with the BJD from 2000 to 2009, and then the alliance collapsed, and then-supervised Minister Naveen Patnaik cut ties with the Saffron Party.
A high-pressure campaign led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah paved the way for BJP's election victory in the state, promising transformative governance and rapid development.
Over the past 11 months, the Mohan Majhi government has claimed to fulfill a large part of its election commitments. Notable achievements include the long-term harsh Ratna Bhandar (Ministry of Finance) opening Lord Jagannath's temple forty years later and providing farmers with additional bonuses every fifth, while the minimum support price is Rs 2,300.
Another flagship initiative, Subhadra Yojana, has provided one-time financial assistance of Rs 10,000 to women aged 21 to 60, which has benefited 10 million women across the state.
As the government prepares to mark its year-long milestone, the upcoming celebrations are expected to not only narrate its achievements, but also set the tone for the development roadmap in the coming years.
