Drug Control Department issues warning against illegal sale of abortion drugs

Tiruchi’s drug control department warned that strict action has been taken against pharmacies selling abortion pills over the counter without a valid prescription from a registered doctor.
The department issued a warning that no doctor prescribes abortion pills for sale after a report from a private pharmacy in KK Nagar. The pharmacy is sealed by the company’s health officials.
“The surprise checks will be conducted regularly and wholesale distribution and sales will be monitored. In this way, we aim to stop unsafe abortion medication habits without medical supervision,” said a senior official in the drug control department.
Officials said abortion pills are classified as Schedule H drugs and require a prescription from a registered doctor. If the pharmacy is found to be involved in the illegal sale of abortion pills, the ministry will seal the facility and cancel its permit under the Drug and Cosmetics Act of 1940.
The meeting will be called with pharmacy owners and drug representatives, warning them not to sell abortion pills to people without prescriptions. Nursing staff and nurses will be raised to alert when dealing with such cases.
According to city health official M. Vijay Chandran M. Vijay Chandran, the city, especially in the Edamalaipattipudur and Kuzhumani areas, has been reported. “Unless supervision by doctors, it is not safe to consume abortion pills illegally because they can cause other complications, depending on the individual’s health and may lead to maternal mortality. Gynecologists must decide whether to choose D&C surgery or to expel abortion pills to patients.”
Officials added that they will continue to do such operations to identify pharmacies that sell drugs over the counter to curb illegal drug sales.
