Drug Trading: 8 doctors and more than 50 pharmaceutical companies conducted under microscopes under unauthorized trials at Ahmedabad Hospital

Five doctors and an associate professor have been found to work with more than 50 pharmaceutical companies to conduct unauthorized drug trials at patients at VS hospitals run by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) since 2021, a preliminary investigation of the five-person component.

These trials reportedly involved patients with autoimmune diseases, rabies, skin conditions and other diseases. Committee members said the pharmaceutical company transferred payments directly to the personal bank account of the doctor concerned.

AMC, along with Dr. Devang Rana, suspended the associate professor and mentioned eight contract doctors in the investigation.
“There is no Ethics Commission established under the regulations of the National Medical Council of India and the then-President’s term.”

According to TOI, the matter ended after the complaint filed by Congress company Rajshree Kesari in February.

Council member Dr. Supriya Malhotra said that over the past four years, hospitals have been conducting clinical studies, with an estimated 57 to 58 companies conducting drug trials. In January 2019, AMC established a senior vice president of 1,600 beds on the VS Hospital campus, worth Rs 8 billion.
